About
Trirong is a serif typeface that combines Latin and looped Thai scripts, characterized by its narrow and tall structure with thick and thin strokes. It preserves legibility with oval-shaped looped terminals and is suited for formal uses. Careful design considerations address the complexity of Thai glyphs and their tonal marks, ensuring clarity even in heavier weights.
Overview
Trirong means "tricolor flag" in Thai, symbolizing the flag of Thailand. This serif Latin and looped Thai typeface features a narrow, tall design echoing traditional Thai letterforms. Its thick and thin strokes and oval-shaped looped terminals maintain readability and legibility, making it suitable for formal contexts. The design carefully manages the sizes and positions of vowels and tone marks, important for Thai script clarity. Some Thai glyphs share similarities that may cause confusion in very short texts, so typesetting should consider this. Trirong's approach to thick and thin strokes in Thai glyphs offers a reference for other type designers. The project is led by Cadson Demak, a Thai type foundry.
