Overview
Tiro Telugu is a serif font family designed to meet the needs of traditional literary publishing and modern media alike. Its design reflects the proportions of Telugu manuscript tradition, notably with generous subscript letters that enhance legibility. The pronounced stroke modulation and carefully shaped counters and finials draw inspiration from the elegant metal types of the Swatantra Type Foundry. Extensive contextual layout features enable support for arbitrary conjuncts, making it suitable for Sanskrit and Pali texts as well as Telugu. The family includes a Latin subset with diacritics to facilitate transcription of Indian languages. The italic style was adapted to complement the original design, extending its versatility across different text settings.
