Shippori Mincho

About

Shippori Mincho is an old-style Mincho serif typeface created to provide novel writers in Japan with a beautiful and versatile font. Inspired by the Tokyo Tsukiji Type Foundry No. 5 Mincho style, it supports Japanese, Latin, and Latin-Extended scripts. The family includes five weights from Regular to Extra Bold, designed for both long-form text and display use. Alternate characters are included for typographic refinement, and the Kanji glyphs are based on the Genryu Mincho font.

Overview

Shippori Mincho is a serif font family rooted in traditional Japanese Mincho styles, crafted to meet the needs of writers and designers seeking elegance and readability. The Regular weight is optimized for extended text, while the Extra Bold weight suits titles and headlines. The design maintains clarity and beauty even at large sizes, making it suitable for a wide range of editorial and amateur uses. The inclusion of alternate characters allows for customization and attention to detail in typesetting. Kanji characters derive from Genryu Mincho, ensuring consistency and quality across scripts. Shippori Mincho is a standard version, distinct from Shippori Mincho B1, which features rounded corners and ink pooling effects.
