Shippori Antique

About

Shippori Antique is a sans-serif font family designed to meet the standards of manga dialogue typography in Japan. It features Kana characters inspired by antique Ming Dynasty styles and Latin letters crafted in an old sans-serif style. The Kanji glyphs are adapted from the Genseki Gothic font, creating a cohesive antique aesthetic. This family is available in a single normal weight and style, supporting Japanese, Latin, and Latin Extended subsets.

Overview

Shippori Antique follows long-established standards for dialogue in manga and was created to provide people who draw manga in Japan a beautiful antique font for free. The Kana follow an antique, Ming Dynasty style design based on Shippori Mincho with thick lines. The Latin was designed in an old sans-serif style. Finally, the Kanji was created by modifying the Genseki Gothic design. Shippori Antique is the standard version of the font. Shippori Antique B1 has rounded corners and ink pooling.
