Reem Kufi Ink

About

Reem Kufi Ink is a sans serif typeface inspired by early Kufic calligraphy, particularly the Fatimid Kufic grid and the work of Mohammed Abdul Qadir. It combines Arabic and Latin scripts designed respectively by Khaled Hosny and Santiago Orozco. The font is well-suited for display use, evoking a historical and Islamic aesthetic with a unique calligraphic style.

Overview

Reem Kufi Ink is a Kufic typeface based on early Kufic (Mushafi) models, retrofitted to the Fatimid Kufic grid and borrowing from its forms. It draws heavily on the Kufic designs of Mohammed Abdul Qadir, a master of Arabic calligraphy who revived and formalized this art in the 20th century. The font is particularly suitable for display settings such as titles or decorative uses, offering an unmistakable old Kufic style that conveys a sense of history and Islamic heritage. The Arabic component was designed by Khaled Hosny and paired with a Latin component by Santiago Orozco. The name "Reem" is an Arabic female name meaning "a white deer," also the name of Khaled's daughter. This font supports color font technologies including COLRv1, CPAL, and SVG tables.

Designers: Khaled Hosny, Santiago Orozco
