Reem Kufi

About

Reem Kufi is a sans serif typeface inspired by early Kufic calligraphy, particularly the Fatimid Kufic grid and the work of Mohammed Abdul Qadir. It combines Arabic and Latin scripts designed respectively by Khaled Hosny and Santiago Orozco. The font is suitable for display use, evoking a historical and Islamic aesthetic with its distinctive geometric style.

Overview

Reem Kufi is a Kufic typeface based on early Kufic (Mushafi) models, retrofitted to the Fatimid Kufic grid and borrowing from its forms. It draws heavily on the Kufic designs of Mohammed Abdul Qadir, who revived and formalized this calligraphic style in the 20th century. The Arabic component was designed by Khaled Hosny and paired with a Latin component by Santiago Orozco. Reem Kufi is particularly suited for display settings such as titles or decorative text, offering a feeling of antiquity and cultural heritage. The name Reem is an Arabic female name meaning “a white deer,” also the name of Khaled Hosny's daughter.
