About
Overpass is a variable sans-serif font family designed as a modern interpretation of the Highway Gothic letterforms used in U.S. traffic signage. It supports a wide range of weights from thin to black and includes italic styles, making it suitable for extended text, UI design, posters, and wayfinding. The design enhances legibility at small sizes and display settings alike.
Overview
Overpass is a free, open-source sans-serif typeface that draws inspiration from the U.S. Federal Highway Administration's Standard Alphabets for Traffic Control Devices. It has been carefully adjusted to improve readability on screens and in print, particularly at smaller sizes and in lighter weights. The family includes nine weights from 100 to 900 and supports multiple scripts including Latin, Cyrillic, and Vietnamese. Its versatility makes it ideal for diverse applications such as extended text passages, user interfaces, signage, and environmental graphics.
