About

Kufam combines historical inspirations from 7th-century Kufi inscriptions and early 20th-century Amsterdam signage to create a dark, condensed, and legible design. It supports Arabic and Latin scripts with multiple weights and styles, making it suitable for diverse media and wayfinding systems.

Overview

Kufam is an Arabic-Latin bilingual typeface intended for contemporary information design such as signage and wayfinding systems. Kufam Arabic draws inspiration from 7th-century Kufi inscriptions, while its Latin lowercase reflects these dark, condensed shapes. The Latin capitals are influenced by early 20th-century Amsterdam shop lettering, resulting in a contemporary, legible, and aesthetically rich design. It is available in six weights from 400 to 900, with normal and italic styles, and supports Arabic, Latin, Latin Extended, and Vietnamese scripts. The typeface was designed by Wael Morcos for the Arabic part and Artur Schmal for the Latin part, originally conceived within The Khatt Foundations’ Typographic Matchmaking in the City project.
