About
Hind Madurai is a sans-serif font family featuring five Tamil fonts alongside Latin characters, designed explicitly for user interface design. It combines humanist-style letterforms with monolinear strokes and flat endings to create clear counterforms and open apertures, enhancing legibility. The Tamil and Latin scripts are proportionally scaled for harmonious bilingual text settings, making it suitable for electronic display embedding and UI applications.
Overview
Hind Madurai is a family of five Tamil fonts that are part of the Indian Type Foundry’s larger Open Source Hind Multi-Script project. The design emphasizes legibility with humanist-style letterforms paired with seemingly monolinear strokes that terminate with horizontal or vertical shears rather than diagonals, creating clear counterforms. The Tamil characters are scaled relative to Latin uppercase letters, with Tamil letters about 80–85% of the height of Latin capitals, allowing Tamil text to sit comfortably alongside Latin lowercase. Each font includes 552 glyphs covering Tamil and Adobe Latin 3 character sets, supporting English and Western European languages. This family is a solid choice for UI design and electronic display embedding.
