About

Alkatra is a display typeface family designed with inspiration from Bengali wall graffiti, featuring blobby, black forms that evoke letters drawn with stick and tar. It supports Bangla, Devanagari, Odia, and Latin scripts, making it versatile for multilingual display use. The family includes four weights from 400 to 700 and offers a variable font axis for weight adjustment.

Overview

Alkatra is a display typeface family comprising Bangla, Devanagari, Odia, and Latin scripts. Each script's design draws inspiration from graffiti lettering styles found in Bengal, India, characterized by thick, blobby strokes reminiscent of letters drawn with stick and tar. The family is primarily intended for display purposes and includes multiple weights with variable font support for flexible weight tuning. The Latin script was crafted by Lewis McGuffie, with design leadership by Suman Bhandary and assistance for Odia and Devanagari scripts from Nehal Mathews and Lopamudra Bose.
