Alata

About

Alata is a geometric low contrast sans-serif typeface designed with influences from early 20th-century poster lettering and Greek epigraphic mono line letters. Its capitals reflect UK Lettering styles, while the lowercase has a more continental European feel. It includes a wide range of figures such as oldstyle, small numbers, superiors, and fractions, along with case sensitive forms.

Overview

Alata is a geometric low contrast sans design that can feel monumental, serious, and occasionally eccentric. It draws inspiration from both early 20th-century poster lettering and epigraphic Greek mono line letters. The capital letters are influenced by UK Lettering, contrasting with a more continental European character in the lowercase. Alata offers a wide range of figures including oldstyle figures, small numbers, superiors, and fractions, as well as case sensitive forms. It was originally designed by Spyros Zevelakis and later refined and expanded in language support by Eben Sorkin in 2018.
